ちょっとお豆のお勉強 Yellow Split peas vs. Chana Dhal

I sometimes see recipes using yellow split peas in place of Chana Dhal. These two things look very similar but their taste as well as texture are different. I boughth Yellow Split peas in Whole Foods yesterday. I compared the two. The right is Chana Dhal and the left is Yellow Split peas. It is hard to see the difference in this picture. The one thing I realized is that the chana dhal is coarser than Yellow Split peas. Can you see the difference?
